about
My name is McLane Zaitz and I am a digital designer at Discovery, Inc. focusing on 3D design for various Discovery, Inc broadcast channels and shows. While my professional design lives in the realm of TV and broadcast entertainment, my personal work revolves around user based interactive experiences. During my personal time I spend my hours working on game and level design for video games. Most recently, this has included starting a new indie game studio with a good friend called TINY BOX Entertainment, our first title "ZERO", is currently in development.
I have always had an intense passion for video games, and more accurately, for the world that the video games take place in. Level design has always been my interest because it is the creative field which helps to visually communicate the grand scale of a world or place to the game's players. I believe that level design is a core feature in the process of world building.
While level design is an extensive process involving many iterations of 2D layout, spawn points, points of interest, alternative pathways, and more, I have always enjoyed set dressing the most. I believe that set dressing in conjunction with good architecture, composition, and lighting aids the development team in indirect story telling. I believe a passion for detail and a focus on the small elements which might seem quiet, often times prove to be the loudest when building a compelling world.
