After finishing my work early one day for my job, I had a few hours left in the day and so I decided to challenge myself with a speed level design to see what I could get done in the few hours I had left for the day. I wanted to challenge myself by simulating having only a few hours in a day to create a small test environment that might be used as an example for a pitch or presentation. Iteration is important to any design process, similar to logo sketches or wireframes in branding and UI design, I believe small level environments such as this could be used for pitches or presentations. These could be used to serve as an example for how certain props, environmental items, or core mechanics might interact with the world around them, without requiring too much polish. Shown below is a stylized fantasy level environment inspired by World of Warcraft I created in about 4 hours.
Shown below are some of the detailed shots of the scene. I thought the challenge was quite fun and I was surprised at how fast I was able to get out something that, while not polished or final, could serve as a good example for a game pitch to show someone my general idea for a level environment, or small area.
